The journal publishes original and unpublished contributions in all fundamentals fields of plant sciences, including evolutionary biology, biogeography, conservation, ecology, ethnobotany, genetics, physiology, molecular systematics, structural botany, taxonomy and floristics among others. Contributions on new species and regional topic are welcome. Botanical Sciences only publishes contributions in English and Spanish. The Accepted papers are invited to write an Abstract in Spanish and English.

The Editorial Board is integrated by scholars working in  different fields of plant sciences. Scientific quality of accepted contributions is guaranteed by strict peer-review. Peer Review Process

Botanical Sciences Guidelines

1. Botanical Sciences publishes original and unpublished research papers in plant sciences, including the areas of ecology and evolution, structure and function, and systematics and taxonomy, among others.

2. Botanical Sciences only publishes original research and review papers that clearly contribute to the development of botanical knowledge.

3. The language for publication is English or Spanish. Each paper should include abstracts in both English and Spanish.

4. Submitted manuscripts must be original and should not be under review or previously published elsewhere. They must address issues of broad scientific interest in plant sciences, and questions or hypotheses of current relevance and significance.

5. Research manuscripts should not have more than 6,000 words. The word count does not include the title page, abstracts, cited literature, tables, figures, and appendices. Manuscripts that exceed the word limit will be returned.

6. Review articles are only published through a special invitation from the Reviews Editor. Reviews should not exceed 8,000 words.

7. Short communication notes are reserved for outstanding findings, and will be published in a much smaller time than regular articles.

8. Botanical Sciences is open to publish special issues or sections through a previous agreement with the Editor-in-Chief.

9. Submitted manuscripts must be written according to the instructions outlined in the “Guidelines for authors” on the Journal website.

10. Together with the manuscript, authors must provide a cover letter addressed to the Editor-in-Chief, including the number of words in the manuscript, and detailed answers to the following questions:

What questions or hypotheses does your work address?

Is your work clearly important and novel?

How does your work advance our current understanding of science?

Will your study be relevant to readers in other areas of plant sciences or is it highly specialized?

11. In the cover letter, authors may suggest an Associate Editor and potential reviewers (co-authors or collaborators, and any conflict of interest should be specified). If the authors wish to request exclusion of specific reviewers, they must also include this information.

12. In the case of revised or resubmitted manuscripts, authors must include point-by-point responses to the comments provided by the reviewers. Otherwise, the manuscript will be returned to the authors.

13. New contributions should be reviewed first by both the Editor-in-Chief and the Managing Editor to determine if their scope is appropriate for Botanical Sciences and if they meet the editorial standards.

14. Submitted manuscripts accepted for peer review will be assigned to an Associate Editor responsible for selecting at least two reviewers who are experts in the main topic of the manuscript.

15. Associate Editors will send their comments and opinion based on peer review to the Editor-in-Chief, who will make a final decision on whether a manuscript is accepted, requires minor revisions or major revisions, must be re-submitted, or is rejected.

16. Revised manuscripts must be received by the date indicated by the Editor-in-Chief in the decision letter; if received after this date, the manuscript will be treated as a new contribution. Manuscripts may be revised or not sent for further review at the discretion of the editors.
